The Nativity – O Presépio
My first idea was to make a Nativity Scene entirely from upcycled objects and re-purposed materials. But then I couldn’t resist to add this beautiful bright red semi-handmade paper…
A minha idéia inicial era fazer um Presépio apenas com objectos enciclados e materiais reutilizados. Mas acabei por não resistir a acrescentar este papel semiartesanal vermelho vivo, lindíssimo!
Starting with glass bottles, cardboard tubes, umbrella pieces, sturdy packaging paper, antique buttons and a vintage galloon – there were different possibilities. And between tests and decisions, it took me several weeks to assemble the whole set.
A partir de garrafas de vidro, tubos de cartão, peças de guarda-chuva, papelão de embalagem, botões antigos e um galão vintage – havia diferentes possibilidades. E, entre testes e decisões, levei várias semanas a completar o conjunto.
Baby Jesus went through various solutions, till the final result. On the contrary, Mary and Joseph were relatively simple to define.
It was not easy to cut the cardboard tubes straight to size, but the really tricky part was to find out a way of linking together two tubes (one inside the other) and a cloak!
O Menino Jesus conheceu várias versões, até à solução final. Maria e José, pelo contrário, foram relativamente fáceis de definir.
Não foi fácil cortar os tubos de cartão a direito e à medida, mas a questão realmente bicuda foi descobrir um processo de ligar dois tubos (um dentro do outro) e um manto!

The tallest figure, Joseph, is about 70 cm. The glass bottles were filled with golden sand from Carcavelos beach.
A figura mais alta, José, tem cerca de 70 cm. As garrafas foram enchidas com areia dourada, da praia de Carcavelos.
